- Industrial organization of the food industries: Primary focus is on the problems and issues related to food firm and industry organization and behavior, particularly relating to structure, conduct and performance. Past and current research include modeling and measurement of structure, conduct and performance of food industries and analysis of vertical coordination. In addition, the food marketing aspect of this research focuses on the economics of FAFH and FAH markets, consumer behavior, and marketing of agricultural products in developing countries.
- Cooperatives:Interest is mainly on cooperative theory and practice. Research in this area include analysis of integration incentives for farmer-owned cooperatives, conducting market potential studies for non-agricultural businesses and cooperatives, carrying out performance analysis of farmer-owned cooperatives, and examining the role of cooperatives in agricultural and rural development.
- South Asia Program at Rutgers University: Rutgers University has recently established a new South Asian Studies Program (SASP; http://southasia.rutgers.edu/). Faculty members associated with SASP have chosen to define the term 'South Asia' broadly, to include the nations of Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet, as well as the bordering nations of Afghanistan and Myanmar. SASP seeks to promote the study of this region and its diasporic communities through the development of an interdisciplinary set of courses, speakers' series, and public events. I am one of the core faculty members of this program.
In general, reflects my research interests. More specifically, I teach both undergraduate and graduate courses that are designed for students interested in food marketing management and the industrial organization of the food industries. An additional and continued goal is to create a strong curriculum in the economics of food marketing
